Product Name Generator
Describe what your product does. Get name ideas whose .com is not already registered.
How to use the product name generator
Describe the product, not the company: what it does, who uses it and the one thing that makes it different. "A habit tracker for people with ADHD that uses streak-free rewards" gives the generator something to work with. "Productivity app" does not.
Each idea comes with a one-line explanation and a .com pre-screen result. Shortlist three or four, say them out loud, then check the ones that survive across GitHub, YouTube and Product Hunt.
Product names vs company names
A product name can be more specific than a company name, because it only has to carry one product. That is why product names often describe or suggest what the thing does ("Post-it") while company names stay broader.
The trade-off is that descriptive product names collide more often. Two companies can both want "TaskFlow". Leaning towards blends and coined words keeps the name ownable, and it is why this generator filters out names whose .com is already registered.
What to check before you name a product
A product name has to be free in more places than a company name usually does:
- The .com, or the extension your market expects (.app, .io, .ai).
- The App Store and Google Play, if there is an app.
- GitHub and npm, if developers will see it.
- Product Hunt, where a launch with an existing name gets confusing fast.
- Trademarks in your product's class. That needs the full check, not just availability.
Product names that work, and why
- Kindle
- A real word ("to light a fire") that points at a feeling, the spark of reading, rather than at the device.
- Febreze
- "Fabric" and "breeze", blended and respelled so the name could be owned outright.
- Post-it
- A compound that is also the instruction. The name tells you exactly how to use the product.
- Walkman
- Two plain words fused into a new noun. Simple, but it described a behaviour nobody had a word for yet.
- Gatorade
- Named after the Florida Gators, the team it was first made for. An origin story built into the name.
- PlayStation
- A compound of what you do and where you do it, in a pattern that later grew into a product line.
Frequently asked questions
Most generators show every idea, including ones whose .com was registered years ago. This one checks each idea's .com first and hides the taken ones, so the list you see is a shortlist rather than a wishlist.
No. It means the domain looked unregistered when we checked. The name can still be used in an app store, on GitHub, or be close to a registered trademark. "Check availability" covers the main platforms, and the full NameSpyAI check adds trademark search.
Yes. "Generate more" asks for a fresh batch and avoids the names you have already seen. The generator is limited to six runs every twenty minutes.
Yes, with no signup. The full NameSpyAI check is the paid step, and you only need it for the names you are serious about.
It is sent to an AI model to generate names and cached in memory briefly so a repeat request is instant. It is not written to a database or linked to you.
Shortlisted a product name? Clear it properly
The free check covers domains, GitHub, YouTube and Product Hunt. The full NameSpyAI check adds US and EU trademark search, both app stores, Google results and the social handles, then scores every signal into one verdict.
